Saudi Arab: No men is allowed to sell perfumes and cosmetics to female
JEDDAH: shops selling women’s accessories are to be banned
According to the media reports, shops selling female perfumes, traditional dresses, bags, shoes, socks, clothes and fabrics for women as well as shops selling mother care products and pharmacies in malls selling beauty products and accessories are strictly banned in the capital.
It is reported that Saudi Arabia banned men from selling lingerie in 2012 following a royal decree by King Abdullah. The ruling was heavily criticised by religious clerics, who issued a fatwa against women working in lingerie shops while the Kingdom’s female activists largely welcomed it.
Under the decision, shops which employ three or more Saudi women will have to employ one Saudi woman as their supervisor or manager.
The decision maker particularly said that:
“All violating shops will be categorised in the red zone of Nitaqat.”
It was further added that:
“Employment of expatriate women at these stores will lead to a fine ranging between SR3,000 and SR10,000 for each non-Saudi female employee. The employer will also be banned from getting visas or renewing visas of their employees.”
